IELTS Listening Band Scores

Learn how Listening marks convert to band scores and how to improve your Listening score.

IELTS Listening band score calculation explained
The IELTS Listening test is designed to assess how well you understand spoken English in academic and everyday contexts. It consists of 40 questions divided into four parts, each based on different types of audio recordings such as conversations, talks, and lectures.
Your IELTS Listening band score is calculated by converting your total number of correct answers (raw score) into a band score between 1 and 9. Each correct answer gives you one mark, and there are no negative marks—so it’s best to attempt every question.
How IELTS Listening band scores are calculated
Once you complete the test, your raw score (out of 40) is converted into a band score according to a fixed conversion table. This helps maintain consistency across different test versions.
